Chapter Activities & Projects
At the UCLA NSDC chapter, students will participate in regular meetings hosted around the campus. The main focus will be matching student skills and interests to cutting-edge climate research projects. The institute is also committed to supporting these students by publishing and presenting their work at various international conferences.
Referencing the four main objectives of NSDC chapters, the UCLA chapter plans to implement the following:
- Education: Host workshops about data science/machine learning topics such as Numpy, Pandas, Tableau, NLP, Computer Vision, etc.
- Community Development: Host weekly/biweekly meetings to discuss data science/machine learning breakthroughs and allow members to interact with each other. Furthermore, also visit local high schools to encourage kids to pursue a career in data science
- Project-based Collaboration: Split the chapter into groups and complete a data science project from the ideation step to execution throughout the quarter.
- Internships and Career Opportunities: Invite established data scientists from the broader NSDC community as well as in the LA area to talk about careers in data science. Do resume-building workshops for members to fine-tune their resumes for data science roles.
