Caribbean Islands Community Chapter

This NSDC Community Chapter based in the Caribbean Islands and is for everyone with an interest in data science and computer science. This chapter was founded in April of 2025 by staff at the University of the West Indies – St. Augustine campus in Trinidad. The Caribbean Islands Community Chapter invites all Caribbean-based students interested in strengthening their data science skills and experiences to join.

Women in Data Science Trinidad & Tobago (WiDS TT) is an affiliate of the Caribbean Islands Chapter.

Spotlight Talk Recap

Seeing Data Differently: Making Insights Meaningful with Online Tools

The latest WiDS Trinidad and Tobago Spotlight Talk featured Ms. Toni-Marie Noel, Data Quality Analyst at CIBC Caribbean and creator of Tech Talk With Toni.

Toni-Marie guided participants through creating a dataset on Trinidadian doubles vendors using the Google Maps API and Python, cleaning and enriching data in Google Sheets, and building visual dashboards in Looker Studio. She also demonstrated ChatGPT prompt engineering techniques, highlighting how AI and curiosity can unlock powerful data stories.

The session emphasized data ethicsAPI key management, and the importance of communicating insights effectively. Participants enjoyed hands-on tutorials, code examples, and discussions on responsible data use.
