The Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub (NEBDHub) is pleased to partner with the Ecosystem for Research Networking (ERN) and Edge to announce an upcoming webinar in the ERN Quantum Webinar Series: “Beyond Bigger: Quantum, AI and the Future of Research Computing.”
Taking place virtually on October 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET, this free interactive session brings together researchers, educators, students, and computing infrastructure professionals to explore the evolving landscape of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies.
Examining the Convergence of AI and Quantum Science
Artificial intelligence and quantum computing are often discussed as separate technological revolutions, yet both are emerging within a broader transformation of the computing ecosystem. As AI drives unprecedented demand for computational resources and quantum hardware advances toward increasingly capable systems, higher education and research institutions face a critical question: what will the next generation of research computing look like?
This webinar will explore the transition from traditional high-performance computing (HPC) environments toward heterogeneous computing ecosystems that combine AI accelerators, cloud resources, classical supercomputers, and emerging quantum technologies. The session will highlight why future scientific breakthroughs depend not only on hardware advancements, but also on the software, workflows, orchestration, and cyberinfrastructure needed to effectively integrate these diverse systems.
Featured Keynote Speaker
The event features Travis L. Scholten, Ph.D., Technical Lead for the Public Sector at IBM Quantum (IBM T. J. Watson Research Center). Dr. Scholten leads initiatives at the intersection of emerging quantum capabilities, public sector research priorities, and academic cyberinfrastructure.
Key takeaways for attendees include:
- An overview of where quantum computing stands today.
- Insights into how quantum is expected to interact with AI and HPC in the coming years.
- Strategic implications for universities, research organizations, and the broader scientific community.
Advancing Data Science Awareness and Community Collaboration
As a community convener and catalyst for data science awareness and innovation, the NEBDHub is proud to support the ERN Quantum Webinar Series. From foundational concepts to real-world applications, these interactive sessions are designed to empower learners, educators, and professionals across the scientific ecosystem.
