Introducing our new Executive Director, Florence Hudson

The Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub is excited to announce Florence Hudson as our new Executive Director. Florence has been engaged with the Northeast Hub since its founding – as a Steering Committee member, special advisor for Next Generation Internet, and a member of the Northeast and All Hubs Strategic Working Groups. As an aerospace and mechanical engineer, specialist in information and communications technology, and champion for diversity and inclusion in STEM, she has served as an engineer at Grumman Aerospace Corporation and NASA, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at IBM, and Senior Vice President & Chief Innovation Officer at Internet2. She is currently a special advisor for Trusted CI, the NSF Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at Indiana University, as well as a leader on numerous national and international committees for data science innovation.

As an engineer and community leader, Florence understands the power of leveraging data and cross-sector capabilities to address complex societal issues. As Executive Director of the Northeast Hub, she brings her scientific and leadership experience to the mission of enabling stakeholders across the Northeast data science ecosystem to align their knowledge and resources to amplify success in four focus areas: health, responsible data science, urban to rural communities, and education and data literacy.

The Data Science Institute at Columbia University recently spoke with Florence about her background experience and vision for the Hub’s future. Read the full interview here.
